Claire is based in Christchurch, Dorset and has an MA in Three Dimensional Ceramics from the University of the Creative Arts, Farnham in Surrey.
Much of Claire’s work is inspired by her love of yoga. She explores the relationship between the mind and body, the notions of an inside and outside world, and the very process of making and creating.
The repetitive and almost ritualistic process of throwing pots, linked to conscious breathing patterns, enhances Claire’s awareness during the making process and heightens the connection between making and material.
Claire’s beautiful porcelain bowls and vessels are ’objects of containment’ which ‘hold a space’. Claire uses different colours, surface treatments and glazes to convey the notion of something hidden in these ‘held spaces’, and to differentiate inside from outside.
