Growing up in Wales I spent my youth being drawn to the fields and beaches of the Gower Peninsular. Escaping the city to surf, and relaxing in the fields around camp fires, I found myself being happiest immersed in either the waves or sat amongst the flowing grasses and flowers. And it’s this form of fluid frothing waves being mirrored in the flowing flowers and grasses which has become a strong influence in my work.
I later spent my life sampling many creative forms during my BA Art and Multimedia degree, from digital art, 3D design to painting, and later commencing a successful career as a wood carver selling work worldwide. But it was the vital connection between hand sanding and shaping wood which led me to start painting by hand which allows me to feel the paint as it is worked, leaving my mark on the canvas with every finger stroke I make.
