Autumn Walk
Morning Light

Dot Mornington-West

I began painting using watercolour but almost always use artist's acrylic, or sometimes water based oil, now. I like the depth of colour that good quality acrylics give and they dry quickly which, for someone as impatient as I am, is a good thing. My style has evolved and is now more impressionistic. The use of large brushes has helped to stop me adding too much detail to my paintings and I am learning to add blocks of colour which add interest. I almost always use a red under paint and I like to allow small traces of the underpainting to show through the finished work. I tend to go straight in with painting and I am trying hard to train myself to prepare rigorously by using my sketch book more. My colleagues in Artseen encourage or sometimes bully me to achieve this aim.
