Mackerel Shoal Encaustic Wax on circular birch panel 50cm diameter
Lyn Kirkland

A local Portland artist working primarily with encaustic bees wax. I am drawn to the olfactory properties of this medium, the smell, the texture and the way it changes under heat. I can embed collaged items, incise text, allow it to melt and re-arrange itself, moving across the surface picking up and repelling colour as it goes. I view my relationship with wax as a journey of discovery, pushing myself and it. Constantly experimenting.

I run workshops in Contemporary Encaustic Wax from my Studio on the Isle of Portland and at the Dorset Centre for the Creative Arts in Poundbury near Dorchester. Please get in touch for more information via my website www.lynkirklandart.artweb.com or via www.craftcourses.com

A newly appointed Director of Artwey CIC who run the popular OPEN FOR ART biennial Open Studio events across Weymouth, Portland & Dorchester.
