A local Portland artist working primarily with encaustic bees wax. I am drawn to the olfactory properties of this medium, the smell, the texture and the way it changes under heat. I can embed collaged items, incise text, allow it to melt and re-arrange itself, moving across the surface picking up and repelling colour as it goes. I view my relationship with wax as a journey of discovery, pushing myself and it. Constantly experimenting.
My work follows two key overarching themes; my fascination with the beauty in nature’s patterns. The sea, sky and stone of Portland and the textures of decay in the unloved and abandoned in my environment.
To the exploration of my personal responses to the human condition, more specifically the suffering of those close to me. My feelings of hopelessness at being unable to resolve their issues often manifests itself in my work.
Open For Art 2017 - 20 May - 4 June
