Milford Art Group

The Milford Art Group was formed approximately thirty years ago for local artists to meet, share their knowledge and expertise.

The Group meets on the first Thursday of each month in Milford Church Hall, Church Hill, Milford on Sea at 2.15pm. Visitors are most welcome. (Kindly note this is not to be used as a postal address.)

Our demonstrators are professional artists who cover all painting media: watercolour, acrylic, pastel and oil. They are filmed and relayed to a large screen television so that the entire audience can see. They can be very inspirational, with many of our members keen to try out these observed new techniques as soon as they return home. Sadly, we don't have tuition facilities on site.

Due to popular demand our membership has increased to 65 full members and 30 associates.

At the end of July we hold our Summer Exhibition which lasts for two weeks.

News Updates - 2019

Max HaleApril Demonstration - Max Hale
We had a most informative demonstration from the very talented Max Hale this afternoon.  He produced two pictures for us in the two hour time frame.  The first of horses in willow charcoal where he stressed the importance of drawing skills and of the use of proper artist fixative and not hairspray!  The second picture was of a small herd of cows by applying the pastel in a vertical linear method which allows the eye to pick up the rhythm of the application of the medium.  A very large majority of us left determined to draw more often and to crack open the pastels and charcoal.

St Barbe Museum Open Exhibition 2019
Many congratulations to our members Julia Ayers, Gillian Key, Janet Penny and Mary Williams for having work selected for the St Barbe Museum Open Exhibition 2019.

Lindsey ColeMarch Demonstration - Lindsey Cole
We had an absolutely inspirational demonstration by Lindsey Cole earlier this month. Beginning with identifying which parts of an image you are to paint, a tonal sketch, watercolour sketch, adding texture and the final painting.

Kate OsborneFebruary Demonstration - Kate Osborne
Our Demonstrator on 7th February was by Kate Osborne, who demonstrated a Still Life of Fruit and Vegetables, using Mono Printing with Watercolour.

Kirstin WhiteJanuary Demonstration - Kirstin White
