After 6 months work in March 2019 'Lefkaxit' is installed overlooking the Gyra; a wetlands of significant importance in Lefkada Greece, focusing the viewers gaze onto the beautiful view through a frame of Single Use Plastics.
Created by Trudi Lloyd Williams with members of the weavers team 'Figos', Lefkogaia Recycling and 250 island participants, whilst the Brexit debate echoed around Europe.
'Lefkaxit' lights up at night providing magical sunsets over the lagoon at dusk and a reflected light show for the many visitors to Lefkas's famous restaurant and cafe street; Aggelou Sikelianou.
'Lefkaxit' provides the opportunity for the public to interact with the sculpture allowing each individual to make their own journey about Single Use Plastics. Supporting text describes the evolution of the art work, the materials and the community engagement. Thousands of locals and now visitors interact and view 'Lefkaxit' each week.
The 'Lefkaxit' Installation was constructed outside at Villa Menta where Trudi stayed in Lefkada. On a metal and wire armature, the layers of Single Use Plastic were attached.
